Robotics Exhibition at the Embassy in Canberra

On Saturday 3 October, the Croatian Embassy in Canberra organized a one-day Exhibition of robotics, as a part of a wider Open Day project run by the ACT Government. It was organized together with a number of leading Australian institutions in the fields of robotics and high technology, and with the active participation of Croatian young roboticists. The exhibition was seen by over 1200 visitors, and officially was opened by Ambassador Kušen and Minister of Sport in the ACT Government Mr Shane Ratttenbury. The exhibition also presented the Croatian traditional knight tournament - Robotic Alka - for the first time outside the Croatian and sponsored by the Knights" Society of Sinj, Croatian Robotic Association and the Croatian Association of Technical Culture. There was also the first football match Croatia - Australia - played by robots. A number of Australian universities, institutes, and schools presented a whole range of robots that are used in industry, transport, rescue operations, robots with different sensors-systems to detect heat and gases, and the unmanned autonomous vehicles, rovers and robots that handle Rubik cube or pass mazes and perform various tasks. They presented the latest generation of robots - NUbots, NAO, Darwin series and others. The exhibition of robotics was covered by leading Australian media, including the ABC TV station 7pm News program. A theme of robotics, which is attractive to the general public, proved to be a successful model for promoting Croatia as a country focused on knowledge, innovation, and new technologies. The exhibition was also an opportunity to further strengthen Croatian-Australian cooperation in these areas.
