Ambassador Kusen addressed to the Australian Parliament Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
Invited by the Honourable Member of Parliament Ms Terese Gorman, Croatian Ambassador Kusen has presented the Croatian determination to facilitate the stronger economic and trade relations with Australia. In that context he asked for their support of the process of negotiation on the Agreement on avoidance of double taxation, that represents the largest single obstacle in trade between two countries and discourages mutual direct investments. Ambassador Kusen also asked the senators and members of the Parliament for their support of the initiating of the bilateral agreement on Work and Holiday Scheme that would allow the Croatian young citizens to work and stay in Australia for a year, but also would encourage the Australian young citizens, particularly of the Croatian origin, to work and stay in Croatia, a land of their parents and grandparents. The people-to-people contacts make the best bridge between two countries.
Ambassador Kusen informed the members of the Joint Committee about the great interest of Australians to visit Croatia as an attractive tourist destination (more than 100 thousands in 2013). He explained that tourists are impressed by Croatian natural beauties, national parks, biodiversity and crystal-blue Adriatic sea with thousands of islands, but also with reach cultural heritage among many are under protection of UNESCO.
