Notarial support and authentication of documents
Croatian Embassy / Consulate-General can provide notarial support by verifying authenticity of a signature or a copy.
Verification of signature at the Embassy/Consulate-General is available to Croatian citizens with a valid Croatian passport or valid Croatian ID card. The document intended for use in Croatia (power of attorney, declaration, agreement, etc) needs to be signed in front of the consular officer.
If the applicant does not have a valid Croatian passport or Croatian ID Card, the signature can be verified by an Australian/New Zealand Notary Public and such document then needs to be authenticated with an Apostille seal, If the document is made in English it also needs to be translated into Croatian language in order to be valid in Croatia.
In order to be valid for legal transaction in Croatia Australian/New Zealand public documents (eg, birth certificate, marriage certificate, death certificate) need to be authenticated with an Apostille seal by the competent authority (Australia - Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; New Zealand – Department of Internal Affairs).
