The collocutors expressed satisfaction with the traditionally friendly bilateral relations between the two countries and developed cooperation in many fields. In addition, they discussed further improvement of economic cooperation considering the existing potentials, in particular in tourism, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), energy and road building.

The current status of Croatia’s accession negotiations for membership of the European Union was also discussed at the meeting. Stressing that Croatia was implementing alignment of its legislation with the European Union’s in compliance with the planned terms, Minister Jandroković expressed his belief that the technical part of negotiations will be completed in accordance with the European Commission’s Road Map. He also informed his colleague Lajčak about Croatia’s position on the solution of the border dispute with Slovenia, and he expressed hope that Slovenia will soon unblock Croatia’s accession negotiations.

Minister Lajčak stressed that Slovakia will continue to support Croatia’s full membership of the European Union.

Reviewing the situation in South East Europe, the collocutors pointed out the role of Croatia, especially after its accession to NATO, as the stability factor and model for other countries in the region on their way to Euro-Atlantic integration.
