The ceremony upon the completion of training of members of Iraqi security forces for official dog guides for the detection of explosives was held on Wednesday, December 9, in "Satnik Kresimir Ivosevic" Training Centre in Dugo Selo.
Six members of the Iraqi security forces and their team leader, Lieutenant Mohammed Al-Maliki attended the training course for official dog guides for the detection of explosives from the 4th May to the 4th of December 2009. Upon the completion of seven-months training, Iraqi security forces were donated with six official dogs and all the equipment.
On this occasion, Iraqi General Mohammed Moshab Hajar thanked for the donation, stressing that they received this kind of help for the first time. "We exceptionally appreciate the help of Croatia, and we believe that it will widely open the door for further cooperation between our two countries", said General Hajar and added that they would never forget this gesture of our Ministry of Defence.
Congratulating the successful completion of training, Director of the MOD NATO and Partnership for Peace Department Zoran Drca thanked the Iraqi side for the cooperation and said that they can also count in the future on the support of Croatia in the implementation of the stabilization of that area. "I know that this is a small step in this process, but all major processes begin with small steps," said in his speech, Deputy Head for the CAF Operations and Training Directorate Colonel Martin Starcevic, congratulating them also on behalf of the CAF Chief of General Staff. Members of the Iraqi security forces were also addressed by the Centre Commander Major Mile Skukan and the certificates on successfully conducted training were handed to them by Chief of Staff of the Military Police Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Mato Rados. Upon completion of the ceremony there was an exercise, which demonstrated the work of the official dog guides.
