The chairman of the Croatian-Irish Friendship Society Mr Emil Cic and ethnomusicologist Mr Krešimir Galin are participating in the festival of poetry, philosophy, music, theology and painting Gerard Manley Hopkins International Summer School, taking place in Monasterevin, Co Kildare 24-30 July 2004.
Gerard Manley Hopkins International Summer School is one of the most renown Irish literary festivals and is dedicated to the English poet G.M. Hopkins (1844-1889) who often stayed in Monasterevin. This year the Festival´s participants came from 30 different countries. During its opening on Saturday, 24 July 2004 the guests were also addressed by the Croatian Ambassador Dr Nenad Prelog, who emphasized the promotion of Irish-Croatian cultural relations as well as the ties between the two countries in general.
The opening ceremony of the Festival was followed by the exhibition opening entitled "Croatian Folk Musical Instruments" by ethnoorganologist Mr Krešimir Galin. 130 different ethnic instruments were exhibited and Mr Galin presented the Croatian folk music traditions and some of the instruments, emphasizing that they need to be preserved like national monuments or parks.
