The participants of the outing have visited a couple of places of historical interest: the house in which Mr Nelson Mandela, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and the former State President of South Africa (the first democratically elected one); Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum (Hector Pieterson was the boy killed by South African apartheid regime police at the beginning of the Soweto uprising in 1976); Oppenheimer's Gardens and the Regina Mundi catholic church.
After the lunch at the popular Soweto Wandies' Tavern, the participants went on to visit the “World of Beer” venue of the South African Breweries (SAB) in Newtown, Johannesburg city centre. The outing helped the diplomats and their family members to get better acquainted with the history of South Africa and with the everyday life of ordinary South Africans. It also served as a bonding trip for themselves.
