The Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that today, 6 November 2004, the Croatian side has taken over the remains of Dalibor Burazović, the Croatian driver killed in Iraq

After numerous interventions by the MFA and in close co-operation with the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb, the Croatian drivers in Iraq have taken over today the remains of Dalibor Burazović. The news was first confirmed by Croatian TV journalist in Iraq Tihomir Ladišić. The editor of Zagreb’s newspaper Vjesnik, Antun Buterin, then also received the same information. The news were finally confirmed by the American side, which informed the Croatian MFA that it had requested a safe and unobstructed transport to the Turkish border.

The remains of Dalibor Burazović were transferred today afternoon to a town of Zahko near the Turkish border, from where they will be transported to Turkey, where it will be taken over by Croatian diplomats in Turkey and a special freight carrier from Osijek.

The Croatian MFA has sent a diplomatic note to the Serbian and Montenegrin ministries of foreign affairs requesting a safe transport across the borders. The remains of Dalibor Burazović are expected to arrive in Croatia the night between Sunday and Monday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again would like to warn the Croatian citizens and especially drivers to a high level of security risk if travelling to Iraq.
