The Joint Committee for the Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Republic of Hungary...

The Joint Committee for the Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Republic of Hungary held its 2nd session on 18 April 2003 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Zagreb. The delegation composed of representatives of sectors in charge of the topics discussed at the meeting were headed by Dr Ivan Šimonović, the Croatian Deputy Foreign Minister, and Mr. Andras Barsony, State Secretary of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, with a view to preparing the official visit of the Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Račan to the Republic of Hungary on 29 April 2003.

Issues on traffic infrastructure, bilateral agreements, educational and scientific cooperation and environment protection were discussed and the following conclusions were adopted:

In order to advance traffic connection between the two countries, it was agreed to draft an agreement on the construction of a bridge on the river of Mura, at the new route of Rijeka - Zagreb - Budapest highway for which funds of the European Commission will be requested. With a view to facilitating border control, it was agreed that a border crossing Goričan - Letenye on the joint location at the territory of the Republic of Hungary is to be constructed. Members of the Joint Committee talked about speeding up the works on the traffic corridor Vb and on the beginning of works on corridor Vc, as well as on the intention and preparations for the conclusion of bilateral agreement on the advancement of scientific and educational cooperation. A subcommittee for environment is to be established soon aiming at joint protection of the environment, to be followed by an agreement in this field.
