The "Central European Summer Ball"

On the occasion of the end of academic year on College d'Europe in Brugge, the "Central European Summer Ball " took place on 17 June 2003. It was organised by the attendants of College d'Europe from Central Europe (Austria, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia) under the auspices of Mr Otto von Habsburg and the five ambassadors of the countries mentioned, accredited in the Kingdom of Belgium i.e. to the European Communities.

The present students of the College, their professors and guests, were addressed on the occasion by the Croatian Ambassador Ljerka Alajbeg and the Austrian Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting. Sponsors provided national gastronomic specials from their respective countries. Croatia was represented by a selection of wines.

To date, about thirty Croatian students attended this elite institution, and with the knowledge acquired there about about the European Union they ARE are significantly contributing to the preparation of Croatia for EU membership.
