Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Friday attended an informal meeting of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) on the fringes of the 77th UN General Assembly. The meeting was co-organized by the Montenegrin SEECP presidency and the Regional Cooperation Council. Ministers exchanged views on the topical matters concerning regional cooperation in Southeast Europe.

“Good neighbourly relations and regional cooperation are very needed amid the current challenges and times of crisis,” Grlić Radman said, calling for the additional strengthening of energy resilience, to which Croatia is actively contributing.

The minister underscored Croatia’s support for the strengthening of cooperation between SEECP member states and the EU enlargement towards these countries, which should remain rooted in individual approach and the implementation of reforms.

“Croatia welcomes the opening of accession talks with Albania and North Macedonia as an important historical moment,” he said, adding that further efforts were needed to overcome the legacy of the past, achieve true reconciliation, and solve outstanding issues.

“We hope that Bosnia and Herzegovina too will be able to make significant progress on its European journey and become a membership candidate soon. The relevant decision of the European Council will be based on the implementation of comprehensive reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the constitutional and electoral reform, and the upcoming elections will be crucial for the demonstration of maturity of that country. We expect the elections to be free and just, respecting the principle of equality and non-discrimination,” Grlić Radman underlined.
