State Secretary Pejčinović Burić on bilateral visit to Canada

State Secretary for European Integration Marija Pejčinović Burić paid Monday, 15 May 2006, a bilateral visit to Canada, during which she met with Undersecretary at the Canadian MFA James Wright and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Ed Komarnicki

State Secretary Pejčinović Burić informed them about the progress of Croatia’s pre-accession negotiations with the EU and the preparations for NATO membership, stressing its determination to conduct the necessary reforms.

Undersecretary Wright expressed support to the Euro-Atlantic integration processes, commending the progress Croatia has made in that regard. He pointed out that Canada supports Croatia’s NATO membership and does not lump Croatia with other membership aspirants. Undersecretary Wright also stressed that the Canadian Government is willing to assist Croatia in the reform process it undertook.

State Secretary Pejčinović Burić and Undersecretary Wright described the bilateral relations between Croatia and Canada as good, expressing their support to further dialogue and the stimulation of the bilateral co-operation.

At the meeting with Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Ed Komarnicki, State Secretary Pejčinović Burić reported on the current political and economic situation, with special emphasis on justice reform, refugee return and mine action. She also communicated Croatia’s interest for the reassess of the Canadian visa regime for the Croatian citizens.
