State Secretary Biščević in Athens

State Secretary at the MFA Hido Biščević paid today, 3 February 2005, an official visit to the Hellenic Republic and held bilateral consultations in Athens with Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Yannis Valinakis and Creek MFA’s political director Elias Klis

Biščević communicated to Valinakis Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader’s invitation for Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis to visit Croatia in April this year. Deputy Minister Valinakis announced his coming to Zagreb at the inauguration of Croatian President Stjepan Mesić.

State Secretary Biščević and Deputy Foreign Minister Valinakis discussed the bilateral co-operation between the two countries and the situation in the region of SEE. The Hellenic Republic promised to support Croatia’s joining the EU and NATO. Biščević and Valinakis shared similar views on the situation in the region and the need to strengthen the EU andUS engagement in solving the remaining open issues and creating a permanent democratic stability in the region.

State Secretary Biščević and Deputy Foreign Minister Valinakis pointed out the necessity of intensifying the bilateral co-operation between the two countries and stressed the importance of the realisation of the Adriatic-Ionic highway project. Both sides agreed on the need for the countries in the region to co-operate with the Hague ICTY Tribunal.
