The visit was hosted by the minister of foreign affairs and European integration’s wife Sonja Jandroković, who expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to be the host and reveal the uniqueness of this part of Croatia, which is not so well-known as Zagreb or the coastal cities. As one curiosity she pointed out the Queen Maria Theresa’s merit for founding and building the core of today’s Bjelovar. She presented in short the city’s rich artisan history, as well as the centuries-old orientation towards European culture and tradition, best exemplified by the city’s library tradition.

The ambassadors’ spouses visited Mala vijećnica (The Little Townhall), where they sampled Croatia’s eco product, saw the Petar Preradović National Library and the exhibition entitled Dialogue with Marin Držić, and paid a visit to the exhibition by academic painter Milan Pavlović at the Gymnasium, as well as to the Children’s Section of the library. The distinguished guests also received a warm welcome by County Head of the Bjelovarsko-Bilogorska County Miroslav Čačija, Bjelovar’s Mayor Antun Korušec, Chairman of the County Assembly Stanko Grčić, and Chair of the City Council Lidija Novosel.
