The two officials expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations, adding they expected them to further strengthen once Croatia entered the EU. They also voiced satisfaction with the cooperation within NATO.

In view of enhancing the economic cooperation, Loughlin said Canadian business people were interested in investing in Croatia, notably in energy and tourism. Pusić underscored the Croatian government’s measures to create a positive investment climate, to which end the ministry recently hosted a meeting on eliminating possible obstacles to foreign investments.

Pusić briefed Loughlin on the topics of this year’s Croatia Summit, which will focus on using Croatia’ accession experience in the post-conflict building of institutions. She said she expected Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird to attend the summit.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Youth Mobility signed by the two governments, allowing young people from Croatia to stay in Canada for up to one year (two in exceptional circumstances) in order to gain work experience and education. Pusić and Loughlin underlined that it should not be abused for the purposes of illegal immigration.
