Pusić and Ashton discuss Croatia’s upcoming EU membership, situation in region

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić met today with EU High Representative of for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and EC Vice-President Catherine Ashton.

Pusić and Ashton discussed the situation in the region after the recent signing of an agreement on the normalisation of Serbia-Kosovo relations and its implementation so that Serbia could get a date for the start of EU accession negotiations. Pusić spoke of her recent meeting with Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić and of the good bilateral relations with Kosovo.

One of the topics was the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Pusić saying a stable BiH was in Croatia's interest and that as a future EU member Croatia will play an important role in supporting the countries in the region in their EU accession.

The two officials also talked about the situation in Iran, since Ashton arrived in Croatia from Istanbul, where she held talks with chief Iranian negotiator and presidential candidate Saeed Jalili.
