Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 30 May 2019 received on bilateral visit the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó.
The two ministers voiced interest in further strengthening of bilateral relations, underlining intensive bilateral dialogue, high-level visits and very good sectoral cooperation.
In the context of Croatia’s upcoming Council of the EU presidency, Pejčinović Burić and Szijjártó exchanged views on the topical EU matters: multiannual financial framework, Brexit, Schengen, migration and enlargement.
Both expressed support for the EU enlargement onto Southeast Europe which, by encouraging reforms, strengthens stability and security in our immediate neighbourhood. Pejčinović Burić said that Croatia’s presidency would focus on enlargement and announced a summit of EU and Southeast European countries in Zagreb.
The talks highlighted very good economic cooperation between Croatia and Hungary, and discussed the potential for its further strengthening.
Pejčinović Burić thanked Hungary for supporting Croatia’s entering the Schengen Area as well as simplifying the state border control regime.
During the visit, Pejčinović Burić and Szijjártó opened the newly-build Hungarian Embassy building in Zagreb.
