OSCE mission in Croatia successfully completed

The decision to close the office confirms Croatia’s progress and concrete results achieved in the two areas of the OSCE office mandate: monitoring domestic war crime proceedings and the implementation of the Returnee Housing Program, which resulted in a positive assessment by the OSCE member states of the fulfilment of the office’s mandate.

The completion of the mandate represents a success not only for Croatia but for the entire OSCE as well, serves as an excellent example for other countries in the region and provides a potential model of closing field missions both in Southeast Europe and the entire OSCE space.

The closing of the office after OSCE’s long-standing presence in Croatia, which has significantly contributed to the country’s democratic development, is also proof of the confidence in self-preservation and cooperation between the government and the civil society, as well as in the independence and efficiency of judiciary. Furthermore, as a country that has undergone manifold transitions from socialist to a democratic society, from war and destruction to lasting peace and stability, Croatia is ready to assist other countries in the region along their road to the EU and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as in their reforms.
