The possession of the 450 square metre diplomatic residence of the former Yugoslavia in Madrid, built on a 1,500 square metre plot, was taken this week, while the possession of the 320 square metre residence in Helsinki, built on the 1,050 square metre plot was taken last week. The purpose of the buildings is to be decided on once their value is estimated and all the options are reviewed.

This completes the two-year plan of taking over real estate of the diplomatic and consular representations of the former SFRY from the so-called OECD group, pursuant to the 2006 resolution by the Joint Succession Committee.

Apart from the residences in Helsinki and Madrid, Croatia took possession of two Trieste apartments in July, the embassy in Vienna in August, the Oslo residence in October and the Lisbon embassy in November.

By 31 August 2012, Croatia will take possession of the remaining three building from the OECD group: the embassy building in The Hague, the Consulate General building in Toronto and the diplomatic residence in Stockholm.

The next meeting of the joint commission for the division of diplomatic and consular property of the former Yugoslavia is expected to be held in Zagreb, later this month.
