Minister Pusić meets EU Commissioner Reding

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić met with European Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Viviane Reding

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić met with European Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Viviane Reding.

The talks focused on yesterday’s elections for the European Parliament, the poor turnout, and the need to inform citizens about the work of European institutions given Croatia's upcoming EU entry.

Pusić and Reding also talked about Croatia's path towards membership, the accession negotiations, and the reforms that have been implemented, notably in the judiciary, and directly affect all the Croatian citizens. Pusić said that all the relevant political parties reaching a consensus in the early 2000s on the EU as a strategic goal had been crucial, especially since it has held up to this day. The two officials agreed that the reforms and the standards Croatia has achieved are irreversible and that Croatia is a model to the other countries in the region.
