On 12 October 2003, Croatian MFA Tonino Picula received the newly-appointed Apostolic Nuntius to Croatia, Archbishop Mons. Franciso-Javier Lozano who handed him his credentials.

In a friendly conversation they noted that the relations between Croatia and the Holy See were traditionally good. The Holy See strongly supports the integration of Croatia in the EU, as expressly stated by pope John Paul II on his third visit to our country, stressing that Croatia belonged to the European family.

It was also noted that Croatia contributed to the stabilisation of neighbouring countries and that it is able and willing to assist them on their way to the EU.
