On Friday, 10 October 2003, Ms. Dijana Pleština, Advisor of the Croatian Foreign Minister for Demining, requested, in written, from Mr. Stjepan Mesić, the Croatian President, to be relieved of her diplomatic rank of Ambassador with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.
Ms. Pleština submitted her request as the Regulations on the Internal Order of the Foreign Service from 2001 have been violated. The Regulations foresee 9 years of seniority in the Foreign Service in order to obtain this diplomatic rank.
As an omission has taken place in the procedure of nomination at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Pleština wishes to illustrate by this example that the Croatian legislation is to be observed and that the rule of law must function, and that no one should be an exception.
