On 14 October 2003, Croatian MFA Tonino Picula received the State Secretary for Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada, Gar Knutson, heading Canadian delegation visiting Croatia.
State Secretary Knutson said that Canada supported the political and economic reforms in Croatia and Croatia's joining the EU and NATO. He noted the sizeable Croatian diaspora in Canada as a link between the two countries. Minister Picula informed Mr. Knutson about the internal reforms and the progress Croatia made in approaching Euro-Atlantic integration processes.
Both sides expressed their interest in strengthening the mutual economic relations, in which the visit of Canadian delegation, including businessmen of Croatian origin, was important.
State Secretary Knutson accepted the proposal of Minister Picula to reconsider the Canadian visa practice with regard to the citizens of Croatia.
