Minister Grlić Radman participates in Montenegrin panel debate on Croat minority

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Saturday participated via video link in a round table discussion on the minorities as bridges of cooperation between Croatia and Montenegro, which was held in Podgorica.

In his keynote address, Grlić Radman said that Montenegro was on the right track to see its strength and values in diversities, recognizing the Croatian minority’s contribution to its culture. “We have had and still have many outstanding issues concerning our cultural heritage. However, the agile work of the Croatian National Council in Montenegro, led by its president Zvonimir Deković, in cooperation with Croatian institutions and us, is finding ways to satisfy the fundamental customs to mutual benefit,” he said.

The minister underlined continued efforts to incorporate the important elements of the Croatian heritage into the Montenegrin educational system so that it would not fall victim to appropriation or eradication, as has been the case lately. He cited examples of the Croatian heritage in Montenegro such as the cult of St. Tryphon, the tradition of the Croatian fraternity Bokeljska Mornarica and local Marian shrines.

Finally, Grlić Radman wished success to the two respective national councils in building wider relations that are unburdened, well defined and conducive to a higher level of action.
