Minister Grlić Radman meets with Cypriot counterpart Kombos

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman met on Monday, March 10, 2025, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Constantinos Kombos. Expressing mutual satisfaction with bilateral relations, they discussed opportunities for further intensifying sectoral cooperation, particularly in the context of the Mediterranean and their shared membership in the EU MED-9 group. During the meeting, Minister Grlić Radman welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of education, which had been signed earlier that day by Minister Kombos and Croatia's Minister of Science, Education, and Youth, Radovan Fuchs.
 
During the continuation of their discussions, the ministers exchanged views on the European Union's priorities, the current global political situation, and cooperation within international organizations. Special emphasis was placed on preparations for Cyprus' presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026, as well as on the importance of strengthening European defence, preparing the new Multiannual Financial Framework, managing the protection of the EU's external borders, and effectively implementing the Pact on Migration and Asylum.
 
Recalling Croatia’s experience as a victim of aggression in the 1990s, Grlić Radman stressed the importance of achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. The ministers also agreed on the significance of the EU enlargement process as an investment in Europe’s stability and security, with Croatia highlighting the transformative effect of accession negotiations. Regarding the situation in the Middle East, they emphasized the need to uphold ceasefire agreements and prevent further escalation, while condemning the escalation of violence in Syria, particularly attacks on Christians and minorities in general.
 
Regarding the Cyprus issue, Grlić Radman reiterated Croatia's support for a peaceful resolution in line with relevant UN resolutions, international law, and the legal framework of the European Union.
