Minister Grlić Radman calls on BiH Croats to vote, prevent outvoting

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Thursday called on Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina to go to the polls on Sunday, underscoring that BiH Croats had to be able to elect their own political representatives without being outvoted by the Bosniak majority.

“The Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina have thus far been outvoted by the Bosniak majority. On three occasions, Željko Komšić was elected to BiH Presidency by Bosniak votes. Now is the time to correct that injustice so that Croats could elect their own representative,” Grlić Radman told the press.

The minister said he expected the Croats to go to the polls on Sunday en masse, especially in central Bosnia, where the Bosniaks are likely to elect the sixth and decisive representative to the House of Peoples.

This would create the possibility of excluding from the government crucial Croatian parties that get the most of BiH Croats’ votes.

“I would like to use this opportunity to call on all Croats with the right to vote to go to the polls on Sunday, especially the Croats of Zenica-Doboj and Central Bosnia cantons, and support the HNS candidates as this is the key part of defending the political rights of BiH Croats,” Grlić Radman underlined.

He was hopeful that the high representative would prevent repeated outvoting of BiH Croats and preserve the foundations of the Dayton Agreement.

The minister announced that in the future, Croatia would support all decisions by the parties of the Croat National Assembly (HNS).
