Minister Grabar-Kitarović met with Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Møller

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović met on Wednesday, 7 June 2006, with the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark, Per Stig Møller, who is on an official visit to Croatia

The tow pointed out the traditionally good bilateral relations and co-operation between Croatia and Denmark, adding that there are no outstanding issues between the two countries.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović thanked Minister Møller for the support Denmark is offering Croatia on its road to the Euro-Atlantic integration, informing him about Croatia’s achievements in that regard so far, as well as about the overall process of the EU membership negotiations.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović also thanked Denmark for the support to Croatia in its public administration reform. Croatia and Denmark signed in November last year a contract worth 13.5 mil. kunas aimed at creating a more efficient administration.

Minister Møller expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Croatia entered the full membership negotiations with the EU, adding that Denmark will continue to offer support and assistance to Croatia on its way to the Euro-Atlantic integration.

The meeting also discussed the perspective of further EU and NATO enlargement, as well as global and regional security. Minister Grabar-Kitarović informed her colleague about Croatia’s recent election to the Peace Building Commission, describing it as an area in which, regardless of our recent history, we have a lot to offer. Croatia placed itself on the forefront of the group of countries that sought representation in the Commission and countries that have experience both as receivers and lenders of UN peacekeeping forces. The Republic of Croatia saw four peacekeeping missions on its territory, from UNPROFOR to UNTAES, and with their assistance successfully carried out the peaceful reintegration process. Croatia is currently taking part in 11 peacekeeping missions throughout the world.

The two foreign ministers expressed a wish for more frequent meetings and more intensive dialogues on the bilateral relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Kingdom of Denmark, as well as for a further development of business co-operation between the two countries.
