The collocutors described the bilateral relations as excellent, expressing conviction that this visit too would further strengthen the friendly dialogue and cooperation to mutual satisfaction. They confirmed the will to continue the two countries’ constructive dialogue, while Minister Jandroković expressed satisfaction over the regular contacts with Secretary Mamberti and recalled the successful Vatican meeting in June 2009.

Minister Jandroković said that Croatia was still firmly dedicated to the implementation of bilateral treaties, expressing hope that Pope Benedict XVI would soon visit Croatia too.

He thanked his guest for the Holy See’s genuine support for Croatia since its gaining of independence through the EU negotiation process.

The meeting emphasized the importance of Croatia’s joining the EU, with special emphasis on its values, also embedded in the foundations of Croatia’s identity. Minister Jandroković informed Secretary Mamberti about the negotiation dynamics, the Croatian Government’s activities in meeting the European criteria, as well as the expectations in regard to the coming Intergovernmental Conference and the closing of the negotiations.

The collocutors also discussed the joint marking of the 300th anniversary of Ruđer Bošković’s birth the following year. At the suggestion by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the two countries postal services will print a stamp dedicated to the Croatian scientist.

Minister Jandroković and Secretary Mamberti also exchanged opinions about the situation in the region of South Eastern Europe, with an emphasis on the current development of events and the position of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They agreed that all of the countries in the region need to be guaranteed a clear Euro-Atlantic future.
