Minister Gordan Jandroković held in Split together with Slovenian Foreign Minister Samuel Žbogar meeting with Croatian and Slovenian businessmen

The meeting was held as part of the opening of the new premises of the Slovenian Consulate General in Split

Expressing satisfaction with the fact that it was precisely the Split-Dalmatia County that contained the largest number of business zones in Croatia, Minister Jandroković informed the businessmen about the implementation of the Government Program of Economic Recovery and Development and the economic reforms in place to ensure the preconditions for sustainable economic growth.

Pointing out the importance of economic relations with the neighbours in the strengthening of Croatia’s economy, he said that Slovenia is Croatia’s fourth-ranked trade partner. Long-standing efforts on part of Slovenian companies to achieve a more efficient connectedness with the Croatian market are now being intensively supplemented by an increased traffic and investment in Slovenia by Croatian companies. The minister also described as encouraging the 6% growth in trade during the first eight months of this year in relation to the previous, whereby Croatia’s export grew by 20%.

Minister Jandroković expressed satisfaction with the traditionally large number of Slovenian tourists, pointing out that in the first nine months of this year more than a million of them had visited Croatia, accounting for more than 6.6 million overnight stays, which is an increase of 12% in relation to the same period 2009. In the overall number of tourist visits, Slovenia was third-ranked last year, and second in terms of the overnight stays.

In regard to the further development of the economic cooperation, Croatia expects an increase in export to the Slovenian market and joint appearances on third-party markets, said Minister Jandroković. As a good example of a joint appearance he mentioned Croatia and Slovenia’s joint tourist presentation at the Chinese marker in May and in India in September this year. He also expressed hope that the railway connectedness would contribute to the tearing down of administrative barriers, as well as speed up and increase the traffic along Corridor X, which runs through Croatia and Slovenia.

In order for Croatia to take its place as a competitive and prosperous EU member, he offered all of the necessary assistance and support on part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the diplomatic-consular representations abroad for the entrepreneurship activities of Croatian businessmen.
