Minister Gordan Jandroković participated in the EU Central Asia Forum on Security Issues, which was held in Paris

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia Gordan Jandroković participated in the EU Central Asia Forum on Security Issues, which was held in Paris, the French Republic, on 18 September 2008

In the Forum, attended by the majority of the EU foreign affairs ministers, Central Asia ministers and high representatives of the UN, NATO, European Commission and the OSCE, at the Terrorism and Proliferation Prevention Panel, minister Jandroković said terrorism was still one of major security challenges of the 21st century. On the occasion, he also emphasized the importance of strengthening dialogue and cooperation in the fight against terrorism among countries.

Minister Jandroković also underlined the increasing importance of the role of Europe in issues related to global security, especially as regards providing assistance to neighbouring countries and regions to fight terrorism more efficiently. He said that Croatia fully supported the Forum which is aimed at strengthening relations between the EU and Central Asia countries as regards collaboration on all security issues. He particularly emphasized the active role of the Republic of Croatia in the fight against terrorism, as the country chairing the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the UN Security Council.

He expressed belief that common goals in the fight against proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, one of the chief challenges to global security, can be achieved by intense international cooperation and more countries joining international agreements and initiatives aimed at preventing proliferation.

Forum participants discussed fighting illegal trade, prevention of terrorism and prevention of mass destruction weapons proliferation, energetic security and environment protection, while Final Declaration is to be adopted thereafter.
