The ministers expressed satisfaction with the meting, organized on the occasion of opening the new premises of the Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia in Split, along with a conviction that its activities would contribute to the further strengthening of the two countries’ cooperation. They described today’s meeting as additional confirmation of the Croatian-Slovenian friendship and a continuation of the positive trend in the two countries’ relations that had been evident since the signing of the Arbitration Agreement.

Minister Jandroković said that the last of the outstanding bilateral issues were being solved in the spirit of mutual understanding and trust, while the agreement on resolving the issue of the Ljubljanska Bank debt, as well as the activities of the Mixed Commission on Outstanding Issues, gave further impetus to the enhancement of the overall relations.

He pointed out that thanks to said positive trend Croatia was expecting Slovenia’s support during the final stages of the EU talks. He said the Croatian Government’s priority was to close the remaining chapters by end-2010 or early 2011 at the latest, so that during Hungary’s EU presidency Croatia could sign the Treaty of Accession.

The ministers agreed that the realization of that goal would send a message of encouragement to the countries of South Eastern Europe. They also confirmed that Croatia and Slovenia remained dedicated to continuing the Brdo Process and supporting the countries of South Eastern Europe in strengthening regional cooperation and their progress along the European path.

Apart from joint engagement in the region, the ministers also pointed out the need for strengthening the economic cooperation between Croatia and Slovenia, which was also the topic of today’s meeting with Croatian and Slovenian businessmen.

The need for a more intensive cooperation was also recognized in tourism, especially in light of the fact that during this season the Croatian tourism achieved record results on the Slovenian market. Slovenia is also to be the partner country at the Croatian Tourism Days, slated for this week in Rovinj.
