At the transfer meeting with the MFEA representatives, newly-appointed minister Pusić was familiarized with the Ministry’s activities during the past mandate.

In her press statement, she touched on Croatia’s foreign-policy priorities in the coming period – preparations for joining the EU, Croatia’s new role in the region after the closure of the accession negotiations and the continuation of the partnership development with the US.

Regarding Croatia’s EU accession process, the minister pointed out three current priorities – the referendum, border arbitration agreement with Slovenia and monitoring. In that regard, she said that the preparations for the referendum, scheduled for 22 January 2012, would commence as early as the following week.

In light of the completion of the accession negotiations and the signing of the Accession Treaty, Minister Pusić pointed out Croatia’s new role in the region, especially in terms of spreading the Euro-integration reforms.

As regards the region, the minister touched on the cooperation with the US, who wants the region to be safe and stable. She also stressed Croatia’s Mediterranean dimension, as well as it stabilizing role, especially after the events in south Mediterranean.
