Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Monday received the inaugural visit from Cuban Ambassador Loipa Sánchez Lorenzo.

The two officials underscored friendly relations between Croatia and Cuba, expressing desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, notably in the area of economy. They also highlighted prospects for deeper cooperation in culture, sports, education, science and tourism, and expressed interest to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Croatia and Cuba in 2022.

Grlić Radman underlined that Croatia’s EU membership opened up additional channels for the advancement of relations and familiarized Sánchez Lorenzo with Croatia’s foreign policy priorities. The ambassador informed the minister about the political and economic situation in Cuba and reflected on the country’s achievements in medicine and the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, including several vaccines, of which two are in the final stages of testing and should be put on the market mid-year.
