Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Marija Pejčinović Burić received a delegation of the European Integration Committee of Montenegro’s Parliament, led by its chairman Adrijan Vuksanović.

The main topics included cooperation between Croatia and Montenegro on the EU enlargement related issues, economic and bilateral cooperation, and national minorities. Vuksanović is also a member of the Croatian Government’s Council for the Croats Abroad.

The meeting underscored the importance of Montenegro’s EU accession process. Pejčinović Burić congratulated Montenegro on its achievements so far and confirmed Croatia’s continued support for the country’s European journey. She said that the enlargement will be one of the priorities of Croatia’s Council of the EU presidency in the first half of 2020, during which an EU-Western Balkans summit will be organized to underline support for its EU perspective.

Croatia is also offering expert and technical assistance to Montenegro in the negotiation process and implementing the reforms required for EU membership.

Congratulating Montenegro on the recently marked first NATO membership anniversary, Pejčinović Burić said it should serve as an incentive for continued strengthening of friendly and good-neighbourly relations, including a more active approach to solving outstanding issues.

Vuksanović thanked Croatia for its contributions to Montenegro’s EU accession process. He said Croatia gave strong incentive and support as well as concrete assistance to Montenegro in strengthening the country’s ability to meet the EU accession obligations.
