FM Kovač signs book of condolence at Macedonian embassy

(Hina) - Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miro Kovač on Tuesday visited the Macedonian Embassy in Zagreb and signed a book of condolence, expressing his sympathy with the Macedonian people and the families of those killed in a freak deluge which hit Skopje on Saturday, claiming at least 22 lives.

The minister also announced Croatia's possible financial aid.

"The disastrous floods that hit Skopje and the area on Saturday, August 6, have once again showed us how unpredictable and powerful nature is," Kovač wrote in the book.

He also said Croatia was considering sending financial aid to Macedonia, at the proposal of his ministry, adding that he had spoken to his Macedonian counterpart Nikola Poposki already on Sunday and offered his condolences.

At least 22 people were killed and 77 injured in what officials described on Sunday as the worst flooding disaster in a half-century to hit Skopje.
