Fifth annual lecture “Ante Čičin-Šain” held at Central Bank of Ireland, Dublin

The lecure was attended by Croatian Ambassador to Ireland Veselko Grubišić, Honorary Consul and President of the Irish-Croatian Business Association J. Gerard Danaher, spouse of late Ante Čičin-Šain Vesna Čičin-Šain, representatives of the Croatian National Bank and the Irish-Croatian Business Association, numerous ambassadors accredited to Ireland, as well as representatives of businesses and banks in Ireland

Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland Patrick Honohan delivered a lecture entitled “Eurozone Membership and Bank Stability”, with a return presentation by Chief Advisor to the Governor of the Croatian National Bank Neven Mates.

Prof. Honohan has been of the Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland for the past year, and had previously held high positions at the World Bank and lectured at Ireland’s most prestigious university, the Trinity College Dublin. His lecture focused on Ireland’s experiences as a member of the Eurozone, the effects of the global economic crisis, and the current situation in Ireland’s banking sector.

The “Ante Čičin-Šain” lectures are held in turns in Zagreb and Dublin, and are named after the first governor of the Croatian National Bank and first Croatian ambassador to Ireland. They were launched by the Irish-Croatian Business Association, which coorganized this year’s lecture with the Central Bank of Ireland. The Croatian Embassy to Ireland stimulates the activities of the Irish-Croatian Business Association and supports the organizing of the lectures.

In regard to the current political situation in Ireland and Croatia, as well as Croatia’s pending EU membership, this lecture too was intended to further stimulate the contacts between Croatia and Ireland, as well as the development of economic cooperation.
