On 28 September 2003, Dr. Ivan Šimonović, as the envoy of the President of Croatia, opened a meeting in Dubrovnik of the directors of the Diplomatic Academies and Institutes for International Relations from all over the world.

This event, for the first time in Croatia, has been jointly organised by the Diplomatic Academy of Croatian MFA and the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna. In his address Dr. Šimonović said that this meeting promoted the values of professionalism in diplomacy and the modern world, and he particularly elaborated on the importance of diplomacy of the historical Dubrovnik Republic for contemporary Croatian diplomacy.
