Croatian Ambassador to Japan Drago Štambuk received renowned Japanese architect Junya Ishigami

Ishigami visited the Croatian Embassy following his last week’s stay in Croatia and a lecture he held at the Croatian Museum of Architecture in Zagreb. Ambassador Štambuk noted Ishigami’s experimenting with materials, pointing out his work blends the organic and the inorganic.

Ishigami informed Ambassador Štambuk about his forthcoming visit to Croatia in September for the project of designing 10 villas in Zagreb, during which he will hold a lecture on the invitation by the ORIS architecture magazine. Ishigami said he is especially interested in the traditional and renovation architecture, and on Ambassador Štambuk’s suggestion said he would visit Dalmatia for the possibility of his taking part in the renovation of old stone buildings destroyed during WW2.

Junya Ishigami is the winner of this year’s most prestigious prize by the Japanese Architecture Association for his overall opus, and is famous for juxtaposing nature and man in his architectural endeavours.
