Croatian Embassy in Vienna, Croatian Ministry of Culture, Austrian Ministry of Culture, Education and Arts, organized exhibition Modern Croatian Sculpture

The exhibition was opened by Croatian Culture minister and Austrian Minister of Culture, Education and Arts Claudia Schmied, expressing satisfaction with the intensity of the Croatian-Austrian cultural cooperation.

Minister Biškupić said that the exhibition features works which best represent Croatian art and was organized as a gesture of friendship and unity between Croatia and Austria. Minister Schmied expressed satisfaction with the intensive Croatia-Austria cultural cooperation, which she hopes would incite Austrian artists to exhibit in Croatia, with which Austria has traditionally friendly relations on all levels.

The present parties were initially greeted by Artists’ House Director Peter Bogner, expressing satisfaction that the Artists’ House had had the opportunity to host two Croatian exhibitions in a short time (in February 2009, it hosted Ars Croatiae by collector Alfred Brogyaniy).

The curator responsible for the layout, Jasminka Poklečki Stošić, chose 51 works by 17 Croatian sculptors (I. Kožarić, M. Ujević-Galetović, P. Barišić, P. Bogdanić, LJ.de Karina, S. Drinković, V. Gašparić Gapa, K.Hraste, K. Kovačić, D. Mataušić, M. Mijić, D. Stošić, M. Zrinšćak, M. Bauer, A. Korkut, S. Majkus i B. Matasić). The sculptures are made of wood, stone and bronze, while the subjects range from classical portraits and interpretations inspired by national and European heritage to abstract forms and conceptual solutions.

Also present at the opening was Croatian Ambassador to Austria Zoran Jašić, as well as numerous diplomats, members of the Austrian cultural circles, and representatives of the Croats living in Austria.

The Modern Croatian Sculpture exhibition will remain open until May 21st 2009, when it is being relocated to Bratislava.
