Croatia is celebrating Statehood Day, the 27th anniversary since declaring sovereignty and independence. Statehood Day commemorates 25 June 1991 when the Croatian Parliament adopted a historic resolution on sovereignty and initiating the process of disassociation from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia based on the results of a referendum held on 19 May 1991.

Today, with exceptional gratitude and respect, we remember all those who defended and succeeded in defending the independence, sovereignty and integrity of Croatia. We pay special gratitude and respects to Croatian defenders and members of their families, whose sacrifice is built into the foundations of our Homeland.

In the 27 years of independence, Croatia has achieved significant foreign policy successes and today, as an active member of the international community, works together with partners and allies on achieving and maintaining global peace and security. The Croatian foreign service will continue to work on strengthening Croatia’s position and reputation in Europe and the world.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, we wish all the Croatian citizens as well as the Croats at home and abroad a happy Statehood Day!
