Coordination Segment of Thematic Meeting of the UN ECOSOC began in Geneva...

On 8 July 2003, the Coordination Segment of Thematic Meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council(ECOSOC) began in Geneva, with this year's theme "Role of the Economic and Social Council in Integral and Coordinated Implementation of Conclusions of the major UN Conferences and Summits". The permanent representative of the Republic of Croatia with the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Gordan Markotić, participated in the work of the Coordination Segment.

Ambassador Markotić emphasised that one of the priorities of Croatia's presidency of ECOSOC last year was better cooperation and coordination between the main UN agencies. As an example he noted that for the first time in the history of the UN the chairman of ECOSOC participated in the work of the Security Council. The Chairman of ECOSOC at that time was Dr. Ivan Šimonović.
