Celebration on the occasion of the departure of Monsignor Giulio Einaudi, Apostolic Nuncio in Croatia...

On Wednesday, 14 August 2003, a celebration was held on the occasion of the departure of Monsignor Giulio Einaudi, Apostolic Nuncio in Croatia, at the Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Zagreb.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Darko Bekić, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a speech in which he emphasised that Monsignor Einaudi assumed the duty of Apostolic Nuncio in Croatia in 1992, at the most difficult times of the Croatian modern history.

“It is not impossible to mention him, without taking into consideration the past decade of democratic development of independent and sovereign Croatia, as he was one of the most important figures in this historical process for the Croatian people and state. Monsignor Einaudi largely contributed to the preparation of four agreements signed between the Holy See and the Republic of Croatia. These agreements are not empty words, as they are revived in every day practice. Further, I wish to point out that the activity of Monsignor Einaudi was vital for the third Apostolic Voyage of Pope John Paul II to Croatia, his centennial voyage abroad, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his pontificate, which we consider a special honour and recognition for our country”, Mr. Bekić said in his speech.
