Mr. Drago Kraljević, the Croatian Ambassador to Italy, talked today with Mr. Paolo Scarpa Bonazza Buora, State Under-secretary of the Italian Ministry for Agricultural and Forestry Policy, motivated by the title “Italy prepared to block Croatia'a accession to EU”, published by Italian paper Picolo II, on 4 October, which was also covered by the Croatian media.

In his talk with Ambassador Kraljević, Under-secretary Scarpa pointed out that the journalist of Picolo II presented points of view of the Ministry for Agricultural and Forestry Policy and the views of Italian fishermen. There was no mention of any measures whatsoever as regards blocking the ratification of the Croatian Stabilisation and Association Agreement in the Italian Parliament. Under-secretary Scarpa also emphasised that the Ministry for Agricultural and Forestry Policy is not competent to give any official views on the Decision of the Croatian Parliament to proclaim an ecological and fishing zone, nor did he propose any such thing.

Mr. Scapra expressed his interest that the dialogue on this topic be continued shortly, on bilateral level of both states.

Ambassador Kraljević announced to meet Under-secretary Scarpa to discuss this topic again.
