Donation of collection of spiritual concerts Parnassia militia of the Croatian composer Vinko Jelić to the National and University Library in Strasbourg, 23 February 2023

Within the promotion of 400th anniversary of the publication of the first edition of Vinko Jelić's Parnassia militia collection in Strasbourg in 1622, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Croatia to the Council of Europe organized a ceremony of donation of two copies of this new published collection to the National and University Library (BNU) in Strasbourg.

This contemporary edition that represents the capital work of Croatian and European musical baroque was published by the branch of Matica hrvatska from Sveta Nedelja and was awarded the Golden Charter of Matica hrvatska, one of the oldest cultural institutions in Croatia.

It is also the first gift of the Republic of Croatia to the BNU in Strasbourg whose director Alain Colas expressed in his speech its full gratitude for this valuable gift which is perfectly in line with the priorities of BNU: Central et Middle Eastern Europe and music.

Recognized as an iconic place of culture open to the public BNU will now be enriched by donated collection of Parnassia militia that will be from now on available to composers and researchers from Europe and all over the world as the only work of Vinko Jelić preserved in its entirety.  Donation agreement was signed by the Ambassador/Permanent representative of the Republic of Croatia to the Council of Europe Toma Galli and Director of the National and University Library in Strasbourg.
