Leader of the Croatian Team at the German Provincial Reconstruction Team Feyzabad, Ivan Velimir Starcevic visited, 2 June 2010, Zhar Shakh Health Center in the village of Layoba in the Afghan Province of Badakhshan. The construction of the health center began in April last year, and was entirely financed by the Republic of Croatia. The construction of a health center for the people of Layoba and the 35 surrounding villages represents a significant contribution to the improvement of the quality of health services and coincides with the health infrastructure plan of the Ministry of Public Health. The work was carried out in accordance with the standards required for primary health care centers and all of the facilities are adapted for disabled persons. Zhar Shakh Health Center was handed over to the Ministry of Public Health of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan last December. Badakhshan is the most northern and least accessible among Afghanistan's 34 provinces where, as part of the German PRT Feyzabad, a Croatian diplomat is performing the duty of deputy head for civilian affairs.
