Organized by the NATO Public Diplomacy Division and hosted by the MOD Public Relation and Information Department, the fourth annual NATO-ISAF Public Affairs Conference took place in the Croatian Military Academy in Zagreb on Thursday, June 3. About 70 representatives of ministries of defence and foreign ministries of countries that have deployed their forces within the ISAF mission in Afghanistan as well as representatives of the Afghan government and NATO representatives participated on the conference. The Republic of Croatia is hosting this conference for the first time, on which participants will discuss the communication and public affairs in NATO ISAF mission in Afghanistan, according to the NATO Strategic communications and the recommendations from the last NATO ISAF PA Conference. On behalf of the Croatian Ministry of Defence, the Conference was opened by the MOD State Secretary Pjer Simunovic, who emphasized the importance of communication with the public both in Afghanistan and in countries whose troops have been participating in ISAF. He stressed that soon several important international meetings related to Afghanistan would be held and that no one doubts that the international mission in Afghanistan would finish successfully. This mission in Afghanistan has been an effort of the international community and not one or several countries, Simunovic stressed, adding that currently one of the priorities was training and supervision of Afghan security forces in order to be able to act independently. In addition to the plenary session, the conference will take place through the working groups on specific areas of importance to communicate issues concerning the international mission in Afghanistan.
