Mr. Tihomir Jakovina, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia, led the Croatian Delegation ant the informal meeting of EU ministers of Agriculture, held in Athens on 4 and 6 May 2014. The topic discussed at the meeting was “Transforming the European agricultural diversity into strength”.
In its intervention, Croatia reaffirmed that agriculture diversity in the EU is an important aspect that needs to be safeguarded and enhanced. Diversity brings recognition in the market and can be an advantage in agricultural development. Croatia recognizes its potential and its advantage in diversity, which can also be profited from in tourism industry. Safeguarding genetic resources in agriculture is another important dimension of diversity, which needs to be retained as a common good, together with other agricultural resources. During their meeting, the ministers had the opportunity to visit APIVITA, the leading Greek company in the field of natural cosmetics, as well as the Costa Lazaridi complex, devoted to growing vineyards and wine production.
