Memorial plaque of Ulderik Franić unveiled in Carolina, Mpumalanga

On May 31, 2024, a solemn unveiling ceremony was held in Carolina in the Mpumalanga province to honor all fallen participants in the second Anglo-Boer War in South Africa 1899-1902. The research of Zvonimir Naval, the author of the publication "Croats in the Anglo-Boer War, South Africa 1899-1902" later revealed that he died in the aforementioned war in 1900. Ulderik Franić, a native of Vrgorac, whose grave and Croatian identity were discovered on the Palmietspruit farm near Amersfoort. Representatives from the Croatian emigrant community in Republic of South Africa with the representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Pretoria participated in the unveiling of the restored monument as well as the unveiling ceremony of the Croatian memorial plaque to Ulderik Franić. Mrs. Iris Jurić Marijanović attended the ceremony on behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Pretoria, and along with an appropriate address, she also read a greeting message from Mr. Branko Radonić, president of the Society of Friends of Vrgorac's Heritage.
