First Croatian Golf Day was held at the Pollok Golf Club, under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Pretoria. Twenty-four amateur golfers took part. The players were Croatian South Africans from Johannesburg and surrounding areas. The tournament was organized to say farewell to Fr. Drago Vujevic, Croatian Catholic priest (Franciscan) who is completing his three-year tour of duty in Sebokeng, a poor black township not far from Johannesburg. After the tournament, an informal get-together was held. Croatian Ambassador Ivan Picukaric used the opportunity to give awards to the best golfers and, on behalf of all the participants, presented Fr. Drago Vujevic with the farewell gift. It was decided that the Croatian Golf Day is to be held every year and to become traditional.
