On 27 June National Day and Armed Forces Day of the Republic of Croatia, as well as 25 years of diplomatic relations between Croatia and the UK has been celebrated on the vessel the MV ‘Millenium Diamon’, owned by the company ‘City Cruises’, designed by the Croatian company ‘Brodarski institut’ and built in the Croatian shipyard ‘Tehnomont’. At the same time this was also a farewell to the Ambassador Grdešic and Mrs Grdešic after almost five years in London. In his speech Dr Grdešic highlighted that the ascension of Croatia into the EU was also celebrated on this boat 4 year ago. He pointed out that during his tenure in the UK, the Croatian Embassy succeeded in increasing its strength and presence in many ways; in political and economic relations, as well as in the cultural, military and security cooperation. He remarked that serving in London was a privilege and a challenge at the same time. He said that he may well be leaving this position, but not his profession and will continue to teach and write about diplomacy and personal experiences gained during his tenure. The reception was attended by numerous guests including members of the London diplomatic corps, Croatia’s business partners, the media and the non-governmental organisations, as well as numerous Croatian citizens who live and work in the UK.
